Tiie Auckland Star says that news has been received by the last English mai that Lord Bkndford, who lately eloped with the Countess of Ayiesford, while the latter’s husband was in India with the Prince of Wales, intends taking up his abode in New Zealand under an assumed name. ‘ One or two of the large station proprietors in the Waivavapa are importing ferrets from Tasmania. It is anticipated that if they will thrive and breed on the runs, they will exterminate the rabbits. The question, however, arises as to how the ferrets are to be exterminated when they have demolished all the rabbits, as with a. healthy appetite for animal food they may attack, possibly, young iambs. The following advertisement apears in a late London journal ;■ —“ Three lady helps wanted, as cook, housemaid, and nurse; private family; no seivants kept.”
