THE LATE SPELLING BEE.

(to the editor of the pate a maid. Sir, —Understanding that remarks have been made, accusing me of favoritism in the late Spelling Bee, I may state that it was arranged between Messrs Hankins, Sherwood, and myself that the words, purposely mixed up, were to be given in the order written down. I adhered to this arrangement throughout, except that after Payne had defeated all competitors, I gave him two words, reserved for a final struggle, if such had been necessary. I am, &c., 11, H. DYER. Patoa, July 10, IS7G.
