The first telegram was, sent throng hj at 1.20 p.m., from tire Deputy-Superinten-dent to Sir Julius Vogel, stating that the cordial thanks of the settlers of Taranaki were tendered him for the union of New Plymouth, this day, with -Wellington, England, and the rest of the world, hy the tclcgi'nphie wire, completed by his efforts. In the District ,Court this morning, G. Benny found guilty of aii attempted criminal assault on,an old lady, 7G years of age, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment, and to receive one hundred lashes. —Gibbons, for larceny from Mrs Ross, was sentenced to eighteen months’ imprisonment. WELLLINGTON. June 29. To-day, the Superintendent signed the final order authorising the promoters — Henderson. O’Neill, and Macdonald —to proceed with the construction of street tramways within this city. June 30.
