THE COMING EVENT.
(to THE ediwe of the pateajlul.) Sir,—l sincerely regret to hear of the intended departure of the members of the A.C. Force from Patea to Waihi. They will be missed in many ways, as a protection and as friends. Those lovers of manly games and amusements will miss them in the cricket field, at football, athletic sports, and theatricals. But there is still a far more serious way in which they will be missed, affecting us all, but more especially you storekeepers publicans, and bootmakers. Yon did not appreciate the value of the birds which came to your nets, you complained and growled at the inefficiency of these birds, and by doing so, yon have the extreme satisfaction of knowing that your prayers have been heard, but mark, storekeepers, publicans, and bootmakers, the benefit yon reap. Did it ever flash across 3 T our mind that the departure of this little band would stop the circulation of £1,440 per annum in Patea, at the very least ? Think of this and weep for your cry will soon be “ What a falling off was there.” Coming events cast their shadows before them.” I am, &c., OMEGA.
