THE HON. H. SCOTLAND AT HOME.

In common with many other journals, we have long given up any idea of expecting suitable telegrams from the Press Agency, and have to put up with what we can get and not what is of interest. Why we did not receive a telegraphic report of the proceedings at the Scotland indignation meeting, held at New Plymouth on Monday last, we are at a loss to imagine, seeing that it was telegraphed to all other papers. As this is the only journal, out of New Plymouth, published in the Pro-

vince, the omission is the more glaring. We clip the following. telegraphic summary from the Chronicle :—“A, largo and crowded meeting was held night of persons from all parts of the district, to discuss Scotland’s letter to Giant. Several' speakers spoke strongly against Scotland’s action ; and his speeches in “ Hansard ” were quoted, to show that he belied himself. Those who endeavoured to take his pait expressed their regret that Scotland had purposely absented himself. The following resolutions were passed ;—That in the opinion of this meeting the charges made against the colony, by Grant, in the Belfast News Letter , and corroborated by Scotland in his letter, are utterly untrue, and are an unjustifiable slander against the colony.” 2nd. “ That this meeting is of opinion that the Governor should be requested to remove Scotland from his position as a member of the Legislative Council, because of the unjustifiable slander, against the colony which he has endorse,dp and that because he in no way represents the views of the people of this province, or of the colony at large.” 3rd. “ That the Chairman be requested to forward copies of the resolutions and a report of the meeting to the editors of the Belfast newspapers, with a lequest that they will give publicity to the same.” All the speakers were very temperate in their remarks, and appeared to regret the action Scotland had taken.”
