At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, held to-day, the annual report was read ; as also a voluminous report 'oljpKie committee appointed to report upon the existing Bankruptcy laws. In tlieir gene-, ral recommendations, the committee urge very strongly that a special Act be passed, validating all past proceedings under the “ Debtors and Creditors Act, 1875,” in so far as they are rendered doubtful by the conflict between the Act and the rules of the Court, or by existing ambiguities. The committee also recommend the Chamber to pointedly urge upon the Government that the evidence of experienced persons should bo taken before a select committee of Parliament before an amendment Act is passed, and that such evidence should also he obtained for the information of the Governor in Council, before the amendments of the rules of the Court aro passed. It is understood that the Superintendentwill address the members of the Provincial Omncil and the country through the medium of print. June 9. Mr Hoskins opens the new theatre in a fortnight. A special meeting of the City Council will he held on Monday to consider the new Municipal Bill.
