HAWERA TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting- of the Hawera Town Board was held on Monday, the 29th inst., to settle various matters in connection with the present Board previous to the election of three members to fill the vacancy caused by the retirement of Messrs Black, Dingle and, McL’Dowie by rotation, according to the Act. All the members were present. The minutes of the previous meeting wore read and confirmed. A letter was read from Air Bate, on behalf of the Hawera Cricket Club, stating that Messrs James Livingstone, George McLean, and Jervy I logo Siggs had been elected trustees for the 5 acres allotted to the club by the Board. The conditions on which the ground should be leased as proposed by the club were then discussed, and several alterations and additions made by the Board. ’ The Chairman was instructed to ascertain from Captain Wray if the cemetery (a 10 acre section) has been gazetted, and if not to farther that object as soon as possible. Also to request a tracing of section No. ;ii) lately surveyed for church purposes, and to ask that a copy of the Gov. rnmeiit Gazette he supplied to the Board. Mr Biker proposal, and Mr Dingle seconded, “That reserve N0.97, containing 4G acres 20 perches, he surveyed and cut into the following blocks, viz., 8 of 5 acres each, and one of 6 acres 20 perches, the above blocks to he leased for terms of 7, 10, and 14 years. MrCimeron proposed an amendment, which was seconded by Mr Wink- - , .“That the abovementioned reserve he leased in one block for a term of 7 years.” Mr Baker’s proposition was carried. Proposed by Mr Dingle, seconded by Mr Black, and carried—“ That the recreation ground (less the 5 acres allotted for cricketing purposes) he leased in one block for a term of 12 years.”
Proposed by Mr Baker, seconded by Mr McL’l.)o\vie, and carried—“ That reserve No. 30 be leased in one block for a term of Id years.” proposed by Mr McL’Dowie, and Mr Cameron seconded —“ That reserve No. 35 (less the portions set aside for the’various religious bodies) be surveyed, cut into 74 acres building sites, and leased ; the term of lease to be determined at the next meeting of the Board” carried. The Clerk then submitted to the Board the balance sheet (advertised in another column) which was received and ordered to be published in the Patea Mail on Saturday, the 3rd June. It was resolved that the leases of the various reserves be sold by public auction. The following accounts were passed for payment: —James Quinlivan, £32 10s ; George Clout, £2 17s ; J. Strachan Greig, £7 2s Id. The Town Clerk was authorised to engage the services of a surveyor to survey (he town reserves. The meeting then adjourned.
