Deaths from low fever amongst the Oroua natives are becoming alarmingly frequent. Amongst other victims aro Erina, the wife of one of the most important mon - of the Ngatiraukawa Hapu, named Koro ; also a daughter of Hoito, who was nursed by an old woman, hat ing pretensions to various supernatural powers, which however, were found unequal to the destroyer, Death, she having been discovered dead in her bed one morning recently. Those warnings are little heeded by the Maoris, the usual tangis being attended by much dissipation and exposure. The next session of the General Synod Church of England in New Zealand is to’be held in Nelson, commencing about the third week in January, 1877.
