On the Great Southern Railway a few days ago, a man was leading a valuable prize brood mare across the line at a crossing, when the animal refused to budge, and the train cut the mare in twoShe was worth 150 guineas. A singular circumstance occurred at Wellington recently. A navvy had his leg broken, by a fall of earth, and he was put in a cab to convey him to the hospital. The horse bolted, the cart was capsized and smashed, but the man with the damaged leg luckily escaped any further njury. A Christchurch Lodge of Good Templars have organised a new form of entertainment with such societies, in the shape of a conversazione, at which a number of attractions, scientific experiments in electricity, chemistry, &c., will be provided, and there will also be music during the evening.
