Yesterday the Native Minister, accompanied by Major Kemp, Te Wheoro, Marshall, Bush, Davis,(interpreter), and Major Mair, visited Tawhiao at Kapiha, who received the Native Minister in a most cordial manner, and invited him to remain for the night, which is considered a mark of high respect. He said he would give Sir Donald his own mat. The party remained all night. A number of the principal Native Chiefs were present. The public meeting will bo held' to-day Tawhiao paid another visit of ceremony to the Native Minister. The conference so far is private, but it is understood to be most satisfactory- The Natives say they would be glad to welcome Grey as an old acquaintance, but they have no desire to discuss political questions with him. The conference will be resumed to-morrow. When matters arc matured full information will be afforded to the Press. DUNEDIN. May 25.
