Patea Mail Office, Tuesday Evening. Mr W. Dale reports having held a two day’s sale of merchandise on Saturday last and yesterday, the articles offered being the portion saved from the late fire at Mr McGuire’s store. There was a large attendance of buyers, each day, and every lot (over GOO in number) was sold without reserve. The prices realised may be con- ' sidcred .satisfactory, considering the quantity offered, this being the largest sale of .merchandise ever hold in the district. .ENGLISH COMMERCIAL. Messrs Bussell, Le Cren, and Co., under date, Loudon, Match 9th, 1870, report as follows ; WOOL, The first series of.public sales for this season opened on the\3sth Feb. and closed on the 4th intit.; there Itys been a numerous attendance of the Hoimc and Foreign trades throughout. The better combing wools'from Austra lia have been competed for with spirit (especially those in grease) and the average range of prices cMi-rent at this Erne last year has been maintained ,• butlvuHy .clothing have receded fully 2d from those prices.' The small quantity (if New Zealand, 3624 bales, almost all scoured, has met a brisk demand at an improvement on last sales’ prices. The next sales commence on the 28th hist., by which time there will probably ■bo 250,000 bales for sale. wheat. Market quiet. Adelaide sold at oJs 6d, ex Granary. New Zealand worth 48s to bis for 49Glbs, ex Granary.

The market remains in much the same state as noticed in our last—'prices at the 'last sales were in favor of the buyers—we quote good to fine mutton 44s to 4os ; fair to fine beef, 41s 6d to 435, FLAX, Now Zealand is being moved off in retail lots, and latest advices show an advance of £1 per ton. Good worth £22. Stock on band about 1100 tons. MOXiiV. The bank rate remains,at 4 per cent.
