PATEA EDUCATION BOARD.
The Patea Education Board mot on Monday last, when there were present, Messrs Middlemas (chairman), Milrov, Coutts, Furlong, Christie, and Dale. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Contis, “That to meet picsent engagements the chairman and secretary endeavor to arrange with the Bank oi; New Zealand for an overdraft of T'iOO at present rates, if required.”—Carried. A petition was read from the Ivakaramea settlers, also a report from the schoolmaster on (he working of the hall-time system. Proposed by Air Middleman, seconded bv Mr Conits, and carried —“ That in reply to Mr Brown’s letter of tho tin soe.retary inform him that the Board are willing to adopt his suggestion, aim make Kakaramna a full-time school, on condition tint ho accepts CISP per annum while in charge of this school, with free house and use of paddock.” Proposed by Mr Contis, seconded by Mr Christie, and carried —“That the secretary reply to tho petition signed by IT. ’Williamson and others, forwarding a copy of the previous resolution." Proposed by Mr Milroy, seconded by Mr Christie, and carried —“ That the secretary acknowledge tho receipt ot Mr liaises report, but to inform him that there is no hope of the. present school-house being removed.” Proposed by Mr Coutts, seconded bv Mr Dale, and carried, —That spouting oc fixed round tho new schools at Kak trauma and Manutahi.” Proposed by Mr Middleman, seconded by Mi- Milroy, and carried—“ That in reply to Mr Chamberlain's requisition, be be informed that the Board cannot make any alteration in books until advised by the Inspector.” Proposed by Mr Contis, seconded by Mr Milroy, and carried —“That Mr Lee be written to, and requested to forward a system of marks, with a view of tneir being adopted in the schools under the Bo a tab” Proposed by Mr Milroy. seconded by Mr Furlong and carried —“ That in eases where a lessee wishes to sub-lot, and to be altogether relieved from In's obligations, the Board arc willing to grant a transter so soon as improvements to the properly so leased to the amount of two years’ rent have been made to their satisfaction. A few small accounts were passed, and (be then Board adjourned till Monday, sth June, at 10 a.m.
