THE LATE KARARAMEA BALL.

'(TO THE EDITOR OF THE TATE a MAID.) Sir, —Puck is famous ! Such, Mr Kditor, are the words that keep soundin'? through my brain as I muse upon the mutability of human things. Some men arc born to greatness ; some have greatness thrust upon them, and some acquire it. Winch is the most honorable of these ways of being gieat, let the enlightened public judge. Truly, in the days of my obscurity, I had no conception that I was capable of exercising so forcibly as I appear to have done, the gigantic intellects of that worthy quintette, that embodiment of every human virtue and manly grace, the late Kakaramea Ball Committee But live and learn is a good proverb. I hope those courteous and k honorable gentlemen will accept mygrator ful thanks for their handsome manner of acknowledging my humble effort on their behalf. It is not often, in this mundane state, that merit is so promptly rewarded, and when an instance of it does occur, surely every benevolent person must rejoice at its publication. When next the devotees to Terpsichore (and their satellites) resolve on having a select hop, I hope they will let me know, as I shall have great pleasure in placing my poetical talent again at their service. I must stipulate, however that the printer be careful not to play confusion with the copy, and that neither the heading, the rhyme, the measure, nor the sense be interfered with. Subject to those conditions, the editor (if he should happen to be afflicted with a delusion that nature has endowed him with capacities for wit) may append as many foot-notes as he pleases. I am, &c., PUCK.
