Experiments made in tlic agricultnra station at Proskau, in German}', on the influence of shearing in increasing the weight of sheep, have shown that shearing improves the animal’s appetite, and the increase is set down to this cause. So far as it goes the explanation is satisfactory, but the probability is that the tendency to grow fat after the wool is removed is the result of one of those compensatory processed which are so common in nature. Fat and wool serve as a defence against cold, and when one. is wanting, the secretion of the other is stimulated. It does not follow that in a warm country the same results will be obtained as are indicated by the Gorman experiments; The results of shearing in Australia should be watched before being interfered with.-
