WASTE PARER PERQUISITES.
(TO TIIK ICUITU 11 OK THE I’ATIiA MAIL.) Hut, I was rather astonished the other day on visiting the Literary Society’s reading-room to find that the hies of important papers forwarded to the Society far the information of its subscribers anil the public generally were not obtainable. After inquiry, I diseoveredlhat the hteiai) i) ml it in I was in search of was con-vi-rled into butcher’s wrapping-paper. Now, sir, as our reading-room is supported by public subscription and Government aid, I trust that the gentleman m charge of its affairs will sec that all papers in future are properly cared for, ,and not disposed of to the advantage of the librarian or other person. Yours &e., A SUBSCRIBER. [lf the newspapers alluded to by our correspondent were considered of no further service in the reading-room, wi can see no possible harm in the libuuian turning them to profitable account, as waste paper in all kindred institutes tonus part of the librarian’s perquisites.—Ed. P.M.]
