WAIROA V. CARLYLE BOY’S MATCH.

Though croWde 1 Out previously, wo have profit pleasure in giving a brief resume of n match that took place at the conclusion of the year, between the boys of Wairoa and those of this township. The Idea (vas started by Mr Dyer, schoolmaster 'liere and it is likely both to make the youth of both districts acquainted, and at the .same time to cement a' friendship between them for years to come. We need hardly add that we. hope his endeavor will be crowded with success, ami that, as with those of larger growth, these .friendly rivalries may do as much social good here as in older countries. Mr Hansard, of 'Wairoa, responded handsomely to Mr liver’s invitation, and the match was arranged without difficulty. Wairoa was lixed on as the scene, and the youthful < 'arlyle team went, down, some on horseback, and others in a conveyance, most liberally chartered and driven by Mr |)ycr, who, in fact, was the leading spirit of the whole,. The game was a close one, ami victory alternated on either side for some time, but eventually declared in favor of Carlyle, as will be seen by the ■subjoined score. The contingent treated their guests most hospitably during the day, and wo are requested on behalf of the Carlyle boys to make this acknowledgment of their kindness. It is hoped that the Wuiroas will shortly come up to Carlyle to play a friendly return match, when they may rely on being feasted to their heart’s content, and at the same time have an opportunity of recovering their recently lost laurels. The following are the scores :
