choose a man, slower of speech possibly, even wanting in the great political ability that Major Atkinson is said to be endowed with, possessing less influence and less power than him, but possessed of an earnest desire to do justice to his constituents, and dogged determination to, as far as lies in his power, obtain it at the hands of the Government and of Parliament. I say yes a thousand times. ]t was this conviction that induced mo to think ol coming forward to seek the suffrages of the electors of this district, and it is on that account that I so deeply regret being compelled to withdraw. At the same time, I sincerely hope for the interests of the whole community, my own of course included, that some one able and willing to thoroughly represent ns will come forward before tin; day ol nomination and to such a one 1 will accord my hearty and unflinching support. I repeat that 1 feel deeply the great compliment that you have paid me, and tender again my most grateful thanks for it. 1 only hope tlisit yon will look round again and induce some one better fitted than myself for the position to become a candidate, that for your own sakes you will do all you can to return him, and that yon will thus get rid of the Ministerial shadow that in lien of blessing has so far been your bane.
