HARBOR BOARD MEETING.
A meeting of gentlemen interested in the formation of a Patea Harbor Board was held, according to announcement, on Saturday afternoon last, in the Court Hi ua -, Carlyle. Mr Dale, who was voted to the chair, brielly exp'ained theobiee; of the meeting, and his remarks were most favi rably received. The first resolution was moved by Mr Ivcss, as follows—“ That a memorial he presented to.His Honor the Snperintcmhiil, praying him to take the necessary steps to have a Harbor Hoard formed for Patea.” , Mr MeCarth y seconded, and the motion qcna carried unanimously. A draft of the was read and adopted. ™A committee, consisting of Messrs M Kae, Sonthby, McGuire, McCarthy, Ivcss, and Dale, to carry out the object of m ad mg. was then agreed to. The following is a copy of the memorial to he forwarded. It is hardly necessary to add that it has been signed by ail to whom it lias been submitted. It is addressed to His Honor the Superintend, nt of Taranaki, and, after the usual hj ailing, runs as follows : 1. That by the Harbor Boards Act 1870, it is enacted tliat the Superintendent and Provincial Council of any provinc, may from time to time make laws for, amongst other things, providing for the constitution of a Harbor Board for any port, or ports, within such province. 2. That no such law has been made cons'itnting a Harbor Board for the port of Patea. 3. That, by the Abolition of Provinces Act 1875, it is enacted that all powers, winch before the passing of that Actwe.ic vested in tlio Superintendent of any province, on the recommendation or resolution of the Provincial Council of such province, shall be exercised by the Superintendent. with the consent of the G iverr.or i i Council. 4. That your memorialists have reason to believe that great b -Refits would result to this district if a Harbor Board were constituted for the port of Patea. Your memorialists therefore pray tint your Honor will, with the consen of he Governor in Council, constitute a Harbor Board for tie p >rt of Patea and make the necessary laws or tlie prudence thereof. And your me uorialists, &c. This was all the business, the most perfect unanimity prevailing on the necessity existing for the formation of a Harbor Board, and the meeting then separated.
