TOWN BOARD MEMBERS.

Em,—On reading your report of the las meeting of the Carlyle Town B sird, [ was somewhat surprised to Ibid that some of its members are possessed of a very small amount of common sense, having berm under the impression that persm-s who ar ; elected to responsible p isitions are chosen from lln*>sir who are able to fulfil the duties of tho office. Now - , it does not in my opinion follow,, that because that person may he a good accountant that he is qualified to value the property in tin; town,, being the secretary to the 'Board at a low salary,.was no doubt tho reason of his being appointed one of the assessors. Another member also speaking in favor of Ins nominee, stated that the ’person was willing to perform the work for £3, and was in every way qualified for the position. Neither of those persons just .mentioned have had any experience in valuing town properties, and therefore, had 'these two persons been appointed I should Mve looked for a queer assessment rollout, thanks to the majority of; the members of the Board present at the meeting, there was one assessor appointed who .should from Ids experience in such matters, lie aide to value the land something near tho mark.
