The weather was very threatening during the first part of the day, and there seemed very little hopes of the game being played out, hut old Sol came out in all his glory in the afternoon, and time just allowed the game living played out. Fraser, captain of the (Jalyte team, won the, loss, and scut Ids opponents to the wickets, Letcher and Dm: «-y hai'dang 1 the willow against the lioweng <”% Garwood and Fraser, the Jormer leading - the .attack. Perry, alter scoring live, was cleverly caught by Taplin, who had to run a good distance to secure tin* catch. An adjournment was then made to Mr Edwards’ hotel, where lunch was provided in his well-known style, and which was done ample justice to. The Carlyle innings calls for little comment, if we except the batting of Fraser, who played steadily and well for his H, not out. Taplin was_ the next highest scorer with 7. The innings i closed for 40 —20 less than their opponents. Wairoa again took the wickets, but were soon disposed of, the buwimg of T raser and (larwood being well on the spot, that of (he latter being the best bowling seen at ’Wairoa for a number of years. The innings closed for 50, leaving Patea 5G to get to win, which they tailed to do. .faeomh and Fraser took the wickets, but the former was dismissed with a “ duck, which let in Garwood, who drove Butcher well to the off for 4 (the hit of the day), but was shortly afterwards stumped by Fookes. Inman hit away merrily for G, and Fimicrty played steadily lor his G. 'The innings closed for 08.
