AUCKLAND. October 9. Arrived —Cypbrencs, with English mail, via ’Frisco. A New York Herald cablegiam from Contenegro says that all the country between fServia and Montenegro is in full revolt, and that 10,000 insurgents have taken the field. Towns have been sacked, all the 'Turkish villages burned, and Turks massacred. 'The Turkish troops are demoralised. Spain is sending more troops to Cuba. The Oat list cause is weakening. There is an abundant harvest in Denmark and Sweden. The Rope lias instructed the Catholic clergy of Bosnia and Herzegovina to use their influences in calming the people and to facilitate the pacification of the provinces. The Admiral of the French Squadron on (lie American station lias been .superseded on account of the pronounced Bonapartist tendencies. 'The Chinese Customs anouncea the appointment of two Ambassadors to proceed to England. On September 13, a terrific storm broke over Chicago, causing immenco destruction to shipping. A train was thrown into the Mississippi river by the rails spreading, and 15 persons were seriously injured. The cost of Cablegrams between Europe and America has been reduced to 25 cents per word. Some oil tanks were struck by lightning, whereby 50,000 barrels of oil and benzine were consumed. A Washington telegram says : —The Centennial Exposition is in danger as matters now stand ; in all possibility it will either fail altogether or bo postponed. A frightful negro slaughter occurred at Clinton, Mississippi, in September. It was crused through a riot, in which the blacks suffered heavily. Fv«, hundred annul whites arrived under M‘ssrs Edwards and Bolton, and occupied Clinton. On Sunday they commenced slaughtering the negros killing in cold blood some 500. The authorities are entirely powerless.
