WAITARA-WANGANUI RAILWAY.
The following is the report of llio Committee to which Hie petition from the Patca. settlers was referred to. It will be seen that there is no dinner of securing the commencement of a section of the railway in this district for some time. “The Committee on Immigration and. Public "Works, to whom was referred the petition of settlers of Patea, have the honor to report that the committee have examin'd the petition, and are of opinion that it would be highly inexpedient to interfere with the course already entered upon hy the Covernruent in the construction of the line in (ptoslion, as compliance with the prayer of the petition must of necessity add largely to the ultimate cost of the work which is already in jirogress at each end of the line.” (Signed) W. IIEE\ EM. Chairman. Dated 25th August.
