Father Pcrluis will celebrate Mass in the Catholic Chapel, Carlyle, at 11 a.m., to-morrow, having been detained at Hawera in consequence of the bad weather. A re-union was held last week at the Whonuakura Hotel, on the occasion of Mr Lloyd, late of Kakaramea, taking possession of that hostelry. Mr McGuire occupied the chair, and after the usual formal toasts, the health of Mr Lloyd and Mr Baynton (the late proprietor) were drank with musical honours. The latter gentleman, whose name is so well known in the district, has resolved to spend his time en tirely in agricultural pursuits, and we are sure our readers -will be glad to learn of his success as a yeoman. Mr Lloyd, in taking his place we are sure will receive liberal support from his numerous ad mirors, and heartily wish that gentleman success in his new undertaking. As wall be seen from our advertising columns, the 25th Road Board invite tenders for works on the Gane Road. Tenders will be received up to 6th September, at noon, at this office. A money-order office and savings bank will be opened at Hawera, in connection with tho Post-Office, on and after the Ist of September next. The Press Agency appeared to be unusually considerate towards us on Tuesday evening last by not forwarding us that day’s telegraphic information. As a rule a large percentage of tho electric missives received from that source are of a very dry and uninteresting character to’ our readers, and we might well be spared the wire charges which their receipt entail. Our Wellington agent, in reply to our inquiry re the omission of our Tuesdays telegrams, lias forwarded us the following message : —To Patea Mail —There was not one item of news yesterday which we thought you would care to have — Press Agency.
