KETEMARAE.

(l-'ROM OUR OWN CoiiJit'SPOXPKXT.) The Waihi Dramatic Club lias at length decided on Tuesday, lOtliinst., as the date for the long' talked o£ performance. The club has been fortunate in securing the services of a scenic artist of no mo in repute, in the person of our old friend, Mr Alex Grant, who has recently returned from his professional tour through the North Island. He is at present busily engaged painting the proscenium, the principal features of which are, A. C. Monogram, worked in black and gold. The. side panncls, in green and gold ; the upper part represents the British coat of anus, wit i trophy and Hags and other devices. The drop scene represents Ama’phir, hj town near Naples, in Italy, celebrated for its picturesque beauty and classical associations. The scene for the farce and burlesque fr s in active operation, and no expense is being spared by the club to ensure success, and an '•ujoyab’e evening' to its audience. 1 believe (hat f>r CO npactness and beauty the interior of ihe theatre is not to be excelled nearer than V. r el ington. Great satisfaction is expressed by both Europeans and Natives, at the appointment of Mr Char, Brown, to tho office of Civil Commissioner, for this coast. The general opinion is it could not have fallen into more able hands. A great oiilux of natives has taken place during last-week to attend the nionst ;r meetings at 'Whenuakura and Waitotara, I am informed that the sale or lease of tho Waimate plains is to come under consideration. I believe they are unfavourable to the Government purchasing it, as there are numbers of private speculators who will give double or treble the price the Govrenment will offer for it.
