PATEA, HAWERA, AND WATROA AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.
The annual meeting of members of tfljjP .above association was held at the Kakaq ramea Hotel on Wednesday afternoon last. There was a large attendance of members present. Mr H. Williamson, vice president, occupied the chair. The Secretary read the following report. The committee of the Agricultural and Pastoral Association beg to present the, members with the first annual report of their proceedings for the year just ended. In presenting the iirst report, the com mitten consider it is a subject for congratulation tliat the society has been so successfully inaugrated. Since the society was formed in July, 1874, the first show in connection with it has taken place, and two ploughing matches, at Kakaramea and Wairoa, have been held under its auspices. During the year the commit tee sent a petition to the Provincial Council of Taranaki, which was presented by Mr H. S. Peacock, asking that, body to grant a sum of money for the benefit of toe association. The result was that a very liberal grant of £4O was obtained from that source. Ten acres of land at Kakaramea was reserved from sale by the General Government for the use of the society, and the committee have erected, a substantial fence around the same, and let it for the term of one year at a fair rental. At the show held in March last, the entries of stock had exceeded the expectations of the committee, and from the large atrendance, it was evident that grout interest was taken by the general public in the exhibition. The success shown must have been very gratifying to the active promoters, and it is hoped instructive to the general pubic.
The treasurer’s account will be laid before you showing a balance to the credit of the Association of £4O 13s Id.
There is a sum of £2l due to the society for subscriptions, and circulars have been -sent to those in arrear, asking them to pay the same to the treasurer.
The outstanding liabilities of the society is about ,£26 being principally for amounts loft in bands of society by prizetakers who wish to take medals in lieu of money. Since the show, enquiries have been made in different parts of the Colony from persons in the trade willing to supply medals to the society, and at the last meeting of the committee the olfer of Messrs Coates <& Co. of Christchurch, to supply the same was accepted. It is now mooted that the General Government .should place a sum of money on estimates for the benefit of Agricultural and Pastoral Association throughout the Colony. It will be a question for the members at the animal meeting to consider if it would bo advisable to send a petition to Wellington in order to strengthen the hands of those moving in the matter. Under clause 4 of the rules of the Ass ciitini, yon will now be called npo * to elect a president, vice-president, treasurer, 8; cretary, and members of committee for, the year just commencing, W. Dalk, Hon. Sec. A letter was rend from D. Guilts, regretting his inability 1o be present at meeting, but. expressing his willingness to furl her rbe interests of the society and to allow his name to he nominated as a member of committee. KLKc'TIOX Of Ol'TtCiiafi. Mr 11. 8, Peacock said he would have the pleasure of nominating a gentleman for the oiliee of president, whom he felt confident would display greater interest in the affairs of the .society than the former occupant of the ofiicc had done. When Major Turner was elected president last year many looked apron him as something great and grand, but this iilu-trious gentleman had not even taken the trouble to attend a single meeting of the association. Ho woni<l now propose Mr William Wilson of Wliennakura, and although this gentleman resided outside the boundary lino of the Province, Ids interests were in it, and lie felt certain that Mr Wilson would bo found to take a lively interest in in promoting the welfare of the society. Captain Kewlaiid seconded the nomination, and there being no other gentleman proposed, Mr Wilson was declared duly elected as president for the ensuing twelve mouths.

Mr Wilson proposed, “That tho next show be held on the '2Bth February.” This date would afford an opportunity of a good show of rams before taking them out of slock. Mr Peacock said that two ploughing matches had been held during the year, and one show. Ho should dike to see a pastoral and agricultural show held separately at different seasons of tho year, favourable for the exhibits. Mr c, Dickie had lately been in Wanganui, and had been in'o med by Mr Ilislop that only one show of stock was hold in the year. lie advised the committee to amalgamate the pastoral and agricultural shows, as the holdingof them separately would only entail loss of time and money. Air H. Williamson said it would ho impossible to suit everyone’s. interests, ami proposed that, tho next show be held on 17th March. Everything would ho in season, and the show would be the means of atlracling visitors to tho distr.V, who would take away a good report. The mot’on was secondul by Mr Gibson, and carried.
