WAIROA.
(from oub own correspondent.) July 24th, 1875. lu the absence of any local news it may not. be out of order to ask you to reprint or summarise the enclosed account of a' ploughing match held at Tokornairiro, in Otago, which is clipped from the Otago WUnens ; perhaps your doing so just at the present time, and in view of the approaching meeting of the Agricultural Association now advertised, may lead to that body seeing that they are not making as much of the funds entrusted to them' for the encouragement of ploughing as folks in other Provinces. Yon will observe by the enclosed report that at Tokornairiro, the funds available, including a moderate valuation of prizes given in goods, only amounted to some £32 altogether, whilst the committee of the late match at Wairoa had £52 at their disposal here. One important item seems not to' have been brought under your notic y that is, that the very excellent pair of harrows, forming part of the first prize, were manufactured at Wairoa, by Mr W.
