We are glad to Hud that our energetic settler, Mr R. E. Mcßae, is directing his attention to inaugurating a Jockey Club for the Patea district. A meeting will be held on Saturday, July 3rd, to discuss the advisability of inviting Ilawora, Carlyle, and Wairoa to co-operate in the holding of race meetings in the latter and former districts. Wc trust the meeting will endorse the convener’s views, as the unification of the districts will be the means of presenting an attractive programme, and inducing good horses to compete at our meetings. Mr Chapman and Allas Ida Bonnifond were passengers by the p.s. Tongariro yesterday, and arc announced to give their opening entertainment on Friday evening next, at the Albion Hall, Carlyle. The New Zealand and Victorian Press speak in very high, tonus of the merits of their performances, which consist of legerdemains and spiritual vision or second sight. Lovers of the trigger will be glad to learn that a pigeon match is arranged to take lace at Suutbcombc Wailotara Hotel, on’Saturday next. Some regular “flyers" will be trapped, end the match being open to all comers, a keen contest is anticipated.
