WHARF AT OPUNAKE.
TO TUB KDITOII OK TUB I’ATKA MAII,. Sut, —Although Opunake is about halfway between Patea ami New Plymouth, anil can be hardly called a portion of the Patea district, yet I take the liberty of requesting a small space in your columns in order to direct, attention to what I consider would be a very useful structure, even to settlors residing 1 in this district. The General Government, I believe, intended to erect a wharf at Opunake at which vessels such as the Go-ahead could go alongside and load or dischage cargo ; but, 1 suppose when the flax mills stopper! working, the idea was abandoned. Now that there arc about fifty constabulary stationed at Opunake, I think it would he advisable to utilise their labour in erecting a wharf at the place mentioned, as some time ago I noticed that a detachment of constabulary erected a very srrbstantial bridge over the Urenui Piver, north of New Plymouth, My idea in mentioning the subject is that if it is worth while to have a wharf there, those interested will take steps to urge upon the Government Die advisability of getting the matter attended to. I am, &c., PROGRESS. Patea, May 28, 1875.
