Most of the Germans who lately arrived with families have accepted the Government grant of £2 and the use of a town section for two years, and have erected dwellings for themselves at Inglewood. They are now comfortably housed for the winter, although at first they provided themselves with tents, and had to be contented for a while. The English people, but with few exceptions, have declined to avad themselves of the oil’cr made by Government. Bwhjet. A ton of gunpowder was exploded on the Blue Spur workings, Otago, recently. It dislodged a block of ground 150 feet wide by 50 feet back and 200 feet deep front the surface. It will take three months to sluice the ground away.
