KETEMARAE.

(frcoi our own correspondent.) Owing to tlie Into heavy rainfad, the roads in this vicinity are in a very had state, and are almost impassable. Even now it is nothing unusual for a dray to 1)0 dug out of the mire. The formation of that portion of the road between Hawera and the hush is nearly completed, but I am afraid it will bo in a worse stab 1 now than if it had not been done at all, there being no prospect of its being metalled tin's winter, as gravel cannot bo found in sufficient quantities in the neighbourhood. An amateur performance was promised us by the A.C. stationed at Waihi for the evening of the Queen’s Birthday, hut owing to the lack of performers, the idea had to he abandoned. The regular quarterly meeting of the Good Templars was held here last week, when Bro Malcolm (Lodge Deputy) installed the following officers for the ensuing quarter:—Bro A, Ramage, W.C.T. : Bro W. Sullivan, W.V.T. ; Bro W. Laudalo, ’W.S. ; Sis Malcolm, W.T.; Bro W. Styles, W.C.; Bro F. Woiler, W.M. This lodge is at present in a very flourishing condition, owing no doubt to the energy of its leader—Bro Malcolm, A fresh survey of the proposed township of Normanhy is to be commenced immediately. The reason of this delay is the alteration of the Mountain Road and railway lines, which pass directly through the original site of the township, cutting up the old survey lines, thereby entailing a new and complete survey. I am informed on good authority that it will be placed in the market within the space of three months. Two cases, involving the reputation of one of our local storekeepers, are to be hoard at the next sittings of the Hawera R.M. Court, when I believe some not very creditable disclosures concerning some of our Government officials will be made public. Both cases are considered very trumpery, and I have not the least doubt of the decision.
