SHEEP RATES.
TO THE EDITOR Of THE TATE A MAIL. Sir, —Can you inform me whether there is such a person as an inspector or subinspector of sheep in the Patca district. I have seen a notice in the Taranaki Herald, dated from the Treasury, New Plymouth, notifying that sheep rates are liable to be sued for after the Ist April last, but does not state where or to whom they are to be paid—the Treasury, New Plymouth, I presume. I for one decidedly object to send rates such a distance, and would ask—why is no person appointed in the Patea district to receive such rates ? I consider that, seeing the preponderance of sheep in this district as compared with that of New Plymouth, or rather that portion of this Province north o_f the Waingongoro, the proper place of residence for the Inspector is in the Patea district; at any rate, we are entitled to a subinspector. If such a person docs exist, it is not very generally known. Hoping you will be able to show that we are not so utterly neglected as appearances would lead us to surmise, I am, &c., INQUIRER. * [There is no inspector or sub-inspector in the Patea district, therefore the sheep rates arc payable at the Treasury, New Plymouth. If the Patea members were interviewed on the subject, the matter night be lighted at the forthcoming session of the Provincial Council, — Ed. I’.AI.J
