A meeting of slaughtermen at the Kaiti freezing works was held the other afternoon (says the Poverty Bay Herald) to discuss the killing of gift sheep for the relief of distress, in Gisborne caused by unemployment. The men agreed to give their services free. The Gisborne Refrigerating Company has decided to grant free storage for the carcasses until required by the relief organisation.

The importance of current-gliding experiments in the future development of aeroplanes was stressed at the University of Victoria by Flight-lieutenant W. R. Garrett, holder of the Victorian gliding record. He expressed the firm conviction that the principles which were being developed by gliding could be used effectively to construct a genuinely light aeroplane of great efficiency which could be sold widely at the cost of about £250 to £3OO. The engine in this plane, he thought, would provide from 25 to 30 horse-power, and would carry two people at a maximum speed of 75 miles per hour, and a minimum of 35. Until such a machine was built we should never make any real progress with aviation. -
