Though the kowbai is a tree that flowers normally in the early spring, two small trees in a sheltered corner at Redcliffs are already waving their yellow pennants. They are always the first kowhais in Christchurch to bloom (says the Sun), and this year they are earlier than usual because of the lack of rain.
