When the Chums arrived at the point whence the scream had come uey could see nothing at first, but Teddy suddenly shouted “ Look!” Clinging to a branch of a tree above the waterfall was a very old ragged oman, yelling for help at the top of her voice. ’ ° “ Save me, save me!” she wailed. “ What shall we do?” cried Golly. But Teddy was already at work. He ad seen an axe lying on the ground. Picking it up he commenced to chop iown a tall tree on the bank. The old woman shouted louder than ever, .’eddy hacked and hacked at the tree and soon it began to totter. Thud! It -all right across the top of the waterfall, forming a bridge. Gingerly the Chums crawled across it and rescued the old woman. When they were going oack Teddy nearly 7 slipped, and the woman gave an ear-piercing shriek. But they all reached the bank in safety. “ You have saved me from the water, strangers!” cried the woman. “I’ve never been washed yet, and I should have died of shame if I had fallen into the water. Ask any wish of me and I will try to grant it, for I am a witch. I live in a cave in the mountain. What wish would you like granted?" “ Why! You must be the witch we are searching for!” shouted Golly. “ Oh, there are lots of people looking for me,” chuckled the witch.” The giant has been after me for years! But he don’t find me!” “ I wish you to grant us one favour,” said Golly. “ What is it?” (To be Continued.)
