The Hastings High Schoo] roll number is at present 416, which is only three less than the attendance when the school opened on February 3, the day of the earthquake. The position is extremely satisfactory, for it is the common experience to have about 20 fewer pupils at the end of the first term than there were on the roll at the beginning of the year.
