Two' rooms in a house in Newton road, Auckland, were wrecked by an explosion of gas on Sunday -last. When the owner, William Probert, aged 83, went to investigate a leakage and struck a match, portion of one of the side walls of the house was blown out, the window and its frame were thrown some distance, and the ceiling in one room was brought down. Mr Probert was not injured, although he suffered from shock and his face was singed. His wife, who was the only other occupant of the house, escaped injury.
