CHAMBERS OF COMMERCE

THE ORGANISING SECRETARY. WELLINGTON, June 17. The chambers of commerce throughout Neyy- Zealand yvill receive advice very shortly from Wellington, the headquarters of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, that Mr G. W. Massingham, organising secretary, yvho yvas appointed in September last, is no longer in the employ of the organisation. It yvas learned to-day that a meeting of the executive held near the beginning of the month decided to dispense altogether yvith his services. The yvhole business was described as unfortunate.

Speaking this evening, Mr Massingham, like the executive members of the Associated Chqpibers, was not anxious to disclose the details of what yvas in reality a purely domestic affair affecting in no way, of" course, anyone’s integrity or the yvork the Associated Chambers are doing. He said, hoyvever, that the trouble had originated principally over the question of authority. Mr Massingham is an Englishman, a son of Mr George A. Massingham, general manager of Barclay’s Bank, and had a distinguished military career during and after the yvar. He arrived in Neyv Zealand in 1924. when he joined the Colonial Motor Company. He held various positions in the company, and was appointed general manager at ’ Dunedin in September, 1926. From numerous applicants he was selected by the Associated Chambers in September last for appointment as organising secretary.
