The Napier Borough Council has notified the public that it is a breach of the borough by-laws to fly kites within the borough. Four 10-ton transformers for the new Government electric power sub-station at Stratford were unloaded at Wellington the other morning from the Federal steamer Huntingdon. Manufactured by Metropo-litan-Viekers, they are of 1167 k.v.a., stand Bft 4in high without the top bushings, and weigh over 10 tons each. They were hoisted by the ship’s gear direct to trucks, and went through to Taranaki by rail. “If there is any person in the community who drinks more tea than I do I would like to see him,” said the Mayor of Christchurch (Mr D. G. Sullivan, M.P.) speaking at the beekeepers’ conference. He said that he always sweetened his tea with honey. Despite the fact that he knew nothing of the chemical action of the combination, he used it consistently. “It might be worth while for you to start propaganda on those lines,” said Mr Sullivan. When the Mount Eden Borough Council advertised for a man to take the position of rate collector, it did not expect it would have a big task in selecting a suitable person. Altogether 350 applications have been received, and it has been found necessary to appoint a committee of three to go through them and submit six to the council for selection.
