MAORI BOY’S DEATH. TAIHAPE, June 16. At the inquest on a Maori boy, thrze years of age, who died on Sunday at Winiata, near Taihape, the medical evidence showed that death yvas the result of haemorrhage of the brain following a ruptured artery caused by a bloyv or a fall. The stepfather, Wereta Takurua, gave evidence that the boy fell on the veranda last Thursday. Witness noticed a bruise over the eye, and the child cried a little. He called a doctor on Sunday, but on arrival the child yvas dead. A verdict in accordance yvith the medical testimony yvas returned. TUNNEL WORKER’S DEATH WELLINGTON, June 17. Mr T. B. M’Neil, S.M., coroner, returned a formal verdict that the deceased died from injuries received when he yvas knocked down by a car in Jervois quay in respect to the tunnel worker, Myles Valen tine, aged 37, yvho died in hospital following an accident on Friday night. The coroner remarked on the poor lighting in the vicinity of the wharf sheds, and discounted any suggestion that the driver of the car, Francis Gregory Galvin, was under the influence of liquor or yvas driving at an excessive speed at the time. MINER FOUND DEAD GREYMOUTH, June 17. Edward John Hallinan, aged 26, single, a miner, was found dead at Taylorville last night with a gunshot wound in his head. He left home to go rabbit shooting.

FARMER FOUND DEAD CHRISTCHURCH, June 17. William Robert Whyte, single, aged 53. a farmer of Yaldhurst, was found dead in his home to-day yvith his throat cut. Death had probably- occurred the night before. At the inqmst this evening it was stated that Whyte had no financial or other worries, and had shown no signs of depression or of suicidal intention. The coroner (Mr H. A. Young, S.M.) found that Whyte had committed suicide on June 16 by cutting his throat with a razor. DEATH FROM GUNSHOT WOUND CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. Bernard M’Kenzie Smith, a farmer, of Waitoi Peaks, near Hawarden, was found early this afternoon lying on the ground at Mason’s Flat with a gunshot wound in his chest, and died half an hour later. A shotgun was found near him. SUICIDE BY GAS POISONING CHRISTCHURCH, June 18. A verdict of suicide by gas poisoning was brought in by the coroner (Mr E. D. Mosley) at the inquest this evening into the death of Andreyv Jock, a West Coast miner, who was found dead in a shed at the rear of the house where he boarded. Jock had been out of work and short of money, and was in arrears with his board. His landlady had told him that he must pay at least part of the nmney due or leave this morning. He was found in a shed with a sack over his head and an open gas jet inside the sack. He had been dead for some hours. FARMER FOUND DEAD INVERCARGILL, June 18. A well-known resident of Grove Bush. Mr William Burke, a farmer, aged 57, was found dead on Wednesday morning on his property with a wound in his throat. An inquest was held this morning, and after hearing evidence the coroner returned a verdict of suicide.

QUARRY WORKER INJURED James Topping, 60 years of age, residing at Evansdale, was caught in a fall of stone in the Public Works quarry, Broad Bay, o n Thursday, and was admitted to Dunedin Hospital suffering from head injuries at 2.30 p.m.
