Awaiting the demolishing force of an easterly gale, the old dredge, John Townley, now lies in shallow water on the reef under Young Nick’s Head, Gisborne. The tops of the funnels are the only visible portions of the vessel, and these can be descried from the Gisborne side of the bay with the aid of a powerful pair of binoculars. A few heavy seas will be sufficient to remove the last superficial evidence of the old hulk (reports the Poverty Bay Herald).
