OTAGO EARLY SETTLERS
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Otago Early Settlers’ Association was held on Tuesday afternoon. The pre? sident (Mr J. J. Mallard) was in the chair.
The following gifts were received, and. votes of thanks passed to the donors:— From W. M. Wilkinson, Dunedin, by-laws and regulations Dunedin City Council 1872 and 1912; Mrs W. H. Millar, Caversham, framed portraits of her late parents, Mr and Mrs George G. Milne, Taiaroa Heads (pilot service), Mr Milne, Stormcloud, 1861, Mrs Milne, Nelson,’ 1862; F. A. Cheyne, Mosgiel, framed water colour picture of Vauxhall Gardens in the early sixties, map of Edinburgh and suburbs 1825, and also deed of appointment of Mr Cheyne’s late grandfather, James Findlater, as excise officer at Aberdeen in 1825, and Greenock-in 1826; Duncan Robertson, Reid road, last copy of Milton Mirror, newspaper, January 27, 1910 —the office was burned down on the 30th,, and publication ceased; Robert Murray, Clarksville, Maori axe andjilso an agreement to lease and purchase'section 49, George street, Port Chalmers, by his late father and William Matheson from David Miller, dated February 1, 1850, witnessed by L. T. Langland and David Carey; John Christie, Warepa, Road Board rate receipt book, 1879; Mrs Dorothy King, Melville street, framed portrait of her late sister, Mrs E. Loft and her husband, E. Loft, Dunedin, genii, 1862. The following deaths were reported:— H. A. Binnie, Eskvale street (79), Ben Lomand, 1863; Miss Elizabeth Mitchell, Dunedin, late Waitati (74), 1858; George Ross, Victoria, late Bank of New Zealand, Dunedjn (89), early sixties; John Middleditch, Port Chalmers (83), John Duncan, 1863; Mrs Catherine Miller, Roslyn, Vicksburg, 1869; John Johnstone, Cumberland street (92), Avon, 1859; W. Owen M‘Fie, Waikouaiti (83), Gil Blas, 1860; Mrs G. C. M'Knight, Mornington (88), early 1860’s; Daniel Bryce, Dunedin, late Mosgiel (87), early sixties; John M. Harland, Port Chalmers (72), Lahore, 1864; George Richardson, Dunedin, late Willowneede, Puerua, Slain’s Castle, 1842. Five descendants were enrolled.
