Air Leslie G. Aloss, a director of 11. W. Aloss, Ltd., Wellington, is leaving on the Rotorua to-day for a trip to England and the Continent. Air A. Chisholm, of the Bank of New Zealand staff, Dunedin, his received advice that he is to be transferred to the Riverton branch of the bank. He will take up his new duties early in July. Air C. Al. Lipscombe, engineer to Road Constructors, Ltd., left Dunedin by the through express on Tuesday morning on a three months’ visit to California ami Canada, where he intends to study road construction procedure. A cable message from Sydney states that Air Albert Charles Hollingworth has been appointed general manager of the Australian Aliltual Provident Society, in succession to Air F. T. Bridges, who has reached the retiring age. Air Hollingworth has been with this society since 1883. Mr H. t>. Skinner, lecturer on ethnology at the Otago University, and Mr Kenneth Emery, leader of the Bishop Museum Ethnological Expedition in Eastern Polynesia, paid a visit on Wednesday to various Alaori camping sites on the Otago Peninsula, and carried out some excavation work. The Rev. Solomon Katz, of New Rochelle, New York, has been appointed rabbi of Wellington. He was formerly assistant minister to the Auckland congregation. In 1920 he returned to the United States, pursuing his studies there. He occupied the position of rabbi to Jewish communities in Alabama, later moving to New Rochelle. Air W. Paterson, secretary of the Early Settlers’ Association, and Airs Paterson celebrated their golden wedding at their residence, Fifield street, Roslyn, on June 8. On Tuesday Air Paterson, was met by the committee of the association and presented with a Alorris chair. The presentation was made by Air J. J. Alallard, president of the association. Air E. J. Wiseman, director of the African Steam Transport Company, passed away, after a long illness, at his residence in Johannesburg on April 28. The deceased was born in the Fiji Islands, where his father was manager of a sugar estate. He was educated in New Zealand, and matriculated at the Boys’ High School, Invercargill, where his father had taken up his residence. Prominent in banking circles in London, Air D. G. Davidson, general manager of the Anglo-South American Bank, arrived in Wellington on Tuesday from England, via Australia, by the Ulimaroa. In his early days Air Davidson was connected with the old New Zealand Colonial Bank, and has not been in New Zealand for many years. He is purely on a holiday visit, and before returning to England will proceed to Vancouver, British Columbia.
Mr W. T. Young, of Wellington, has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the Unemployment Board caused by the resignation of Air W. Bromley. The appointment was made by the Governor-General for the remainder of the term for which Air Bromley was appointed. In making the announcement the chairman of the Unemployment Board (Mr S. G. Smith) said that nominations were called from all workers’ organisations concerned. Only five nominations were received. Representatives of various shipping companies, the Otago Harbour Board, and several commercial houses met in the Otago Club last week to bid farewell to Air G. L. H. Noy, Government inspector of machinery, who has been transferred to Auckland on promotion. Alessrs F. Tyson (chairman of the Shipowners’ Association), J. Loudon (chairman of the Harbour Board), J. AI'G. Wilkie (engineer to the Harbour Board), W. Crawford (Lloyd’s surveyor), and E. Wood (secretary of the Shippers and Importers’ Association) referred to their pleasant associations with Air Noy while he was in Dunedin, and he was asked to accept a case of pipes as a token of goodwill. Air Noy suitably replied.
