CONTRAVENTION OF ENGLISH ACT SHIPMENT PROHIBITED FROM LANDING. WHANGAREI, June 9. The Matakana Dairy Company, which has used the word “ British ” on its butter boxes for the past 30 years, has .received notice from the Dairy Board and its London principals that the brand is a contravention of the Merchant Marks Act and that the landing of a consignment of 1270 boxes on board the steamer Tainui has been prohibited. Action has been taken under the Act of 1887, which says:— The description “ British ” is legally applicable only to goods manufactured in Britain.
