WOMAN’S DEATH INVESTIGATED AUCKLAND, June 12. “ I think every possible inquiry has been made, but there is not sufficient evidence to show what the cause of death was,” said Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M., coroner, at the adjourned inquest concerning the death of Mary Lilian Evett Maude, aged 53, whose body was found in some thick scrub on the cliff over Long Bay on May 17. Evidence was given that when the deceased left her home in Mount Eden on August 23, 1930, there was nothing unusual in her manner. She had been in poor health for two years preceding her disappearance, and at times she had complained of palpitation of the heart and shortage of breath. She was in comfortable financial circumstances. She knew the locality where her body was found as she had stayed at the summer residence of relatives in the Brown’s Bay district. Two doctors said that when found the body had been exposed to the weather for some months Post-mortem examinations did not reveal any signs of violence and witnesses were unable to form an opinion as to the cause of death.
MOTOR CAR FATALITY WELLINGTON, June 12. A man.who was struck by a motor car in Jervois quay early last evening was so badly injured that he died in the ambulance on the way to hospital. Barber from Tycho friends, 6/8/15.” The night was dark, and the road was wet with a light drizzle. The place ■where
the accident happened is a dangerous one, because the quay is extremely wide, and the side nearer the waterfront is badly lit, and no footpath runs along that side.

FATAL MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENT. The adjourned inquest into the death of Alexander Michael M'Leod, who met with a fatal motor cycle accident on the Waitati road on December 24, 1930, was concluded on Friday morning, Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M., sitting as coroner. Ser geant Vaughan conducted the case for the police. The coroner, after reviewing the ev ! dence, said that he could have no doubt that the deceased was travelling very fast indeed. However, he had paid the penalty himself and there was no need to stress the matter except to. point out the danger of motorists travelling at a high rate of speed. As regards Petersen's statement that he was travelling at only 25 miles an hour there was no other evidence, but it seemed strange that a man should come off a motor cycle at that point while going at such a speed. “ I can see no reason for it unless there was something wrong with the motor cycle,” Mr Bundle added. “It seems to me that Petersen was also travelling very fast. I can only find on the evidence before me that deceased died in the Dunedin Hospital on June 7 from a cerebral abscess, the result of being accidentally thrown from a motor cycle ridden by him on the Waitati road on December 24, 1930.” MOTOR CAR ACCIDENT Mary Gregg, 18 years of age, residing at 9 Wesley street, South Dunedin, was admitted to the Hospital at 4.30 p.m. on Sunday suffering from injuries to the left side of the head and the left hand.
