Business in the building trade has been very slack during the past few months in Ashburton as far as new buildings are concerned, but there has been a fair amount of alteration work to both town and country premises, enabling most of the firms in the trade to keen their staffs engaged part, if not full, time (says the Guardian). Prosnects for the winter months are said to be brighter, as several contracts are expected to be put in hand shortly.
