A curious little rodent found among the Rocky Mountains called the “ trading rat,” derives its name from its curious habit of never stealing anything without putting something in its place. Two young women campng left the lid of their biscuit box open one night. In the morning all the biscuits were gone, and the box was filled with an indescribable mixture of chips, scraps of leather, sticks, bones, and dried beans. The “ trading rat ” is a pretty little creature with a soft grey fur, more like a squirrel than a rat. It has a violent fancy for anything of a bright red hue.
