RETURNED SOLDIERS’ AFFAIRS
REMITS TO CONFERENCE. The following remits will be moved by the delegates from the Dunedin Returned Soldiers Association at the annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers- Association, which is to be commenced in Wellington on June 23:— 1. That this conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association expresses its disappointment that representations to the Imperial authorities for further grants of war funds to be used in New Zealand for the benefit ol eximpeiiai soldiers, have so far been unavailing, and ingtructs headquaiteis to make further representations to the responsible authorities for reconsidei ation of the matter. 2. That in view of the number of transfers going through between the diffcient associations, there should be installed a proper system for dealing with them. 3. That the local Advisory Committees under the Disabled Soldiers’ Rehabiiitation Act be gazetted immediately, notwithstanding that no employment officers have been appointed. It is our desire that these committees should function immediately for the purpose tabulating the men to bp dealt with, and formulating a policy to guide the employment and vocaDonal officers when they are appointed. 4. That if it be desired that all poppies are to be manufactured in New Zealand, then headquarters shall- control the manufacture and distribution. 5. (a) That the Government be asked to comply with the request of the 1929 conference regarding artificial limbs contract. (b) Lhat a conference consisting of representatives of limbless men, orthopaedic surgeons, the Pensions Department, and artificial limb manufacturers, be held in Wellington prior to any definite contract for supply or repair of limbs by the Defence Department. 6. That this conference of delegates of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association. realising the importance to the British Empire in genera] and this Dominion in particular of a policy of Interempire trade preference, whole-heartedly supports the British Empire Service League in its advocacy of such a policy as opposed to the system of Freetrade at present sponsored by the Imperial Government.
