SATURDAY’S MATCHES. DUNEDIN. Owing to the state of the grounds only First Grade matches were played on Saturday. The principal game was that between Maori Hill and High-School Old Boys, played at Logan Park, and notwithstanding the adverse conditions a fine game of football was witnessed. The High School boys displayed better combination and footwork than their opponent v»ho were fortunate to get away with a point, < ich side scoring e goal. With each round played the championship table is proving more interesting, and Maori ILL has now a lead of only one point from feacliff. The results of Satur lay’s games were:— Maori Hill .. 1 ILS. CHATHAM CUP COMPETITION SEACLIFF DEFEATS MOSGIEL. There was an attendance of about 1000 spectators at Logan Park on Wednesday afternoon to witness the game between Seacliff and Mosgiel, which was played off in the first round of the eliminating games oi the local Chatham Cup competition. The overhead and ground conditions were ideal, and a fast and interesting game resulted in Seacliff winning by two goals to one. The teams were fairly evenly matched, both sides showing good football at times, and the result was a fair indication of the run of the play. Seacliff deserved the honours by reason of its better team work. The competition is run on the knock-out principle, and today’s result leaves Seacliff. Maori Hill, Northern, and Port Chalmers still to play. The teams were as follow: — Seacliff (Blue). —Thompson, Watson, Anderson, Macpherson. Gordon, Rogers, Simmonds, MALean. Hooper. M Cormack, and Baillie. Mosgiel (Black and White).—M‘Dougall, M‘Cloy, Steven, Dalziel.” Porter. R. Skinner, Gorrie, Whyte, O’Rorke, Moore and C. Skinner. The final scores were:— Seacliff 2 goals. Mosgiel 1 goal. NAVY DEFEATS AUCKLAND. AUCKLAND. June 3. The representative match between the Navy and Auckland was won by the former by 5 goals to 4. WELLINGTON DEFEATS CANTERBURY. : WELLINGTON, June 3. Wellington defeated Canterbury by 5 goals to nil. ■
DOMINION COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, June 2. The Council of the New Zealand Footfall Association at it’s meeting to-night received an intimation from Brigadiergeneral W. R. N. Madocks expressing his willingness to act as the representative of the New Zealand Football Association to the English Football Association. Mr H. R. Barrett, president of the Westland Schools’ Football Association, wrote stating that the South Island primary schools’ tournament would be held at Invercargill. He asked for financial assistance to send the Westland team.—lt was decided to reply that a grant had been made to the South Island Primary Schools’ Association, and Westland was recommended to make application to that body. The Competitions Committee reported that there were 14 entries from the North Island and 17 from the South Island for the Chatham Cup, the first occasion upon which the South Island has exceeded the North. The com mittee strongly recommended that the dates set down should be strictly adhered to. The draw is as follows:— June 20. —Wanganui v. Manawatu, at Palmerston North. July 18. —Finalists of provincial rounds to be found at Auckland, South Auckland, Wellington. Westland, and Otago. July 25.—Winner of Manawatu v. Wanganui v. Wellington finalists at Wanganui or Palmerston North; Westland finalists v. Canterbury finalists at Greymouth and Auckland v* South Auckland at Hamilton. August 15.—Winners of Auckland v. Wellington, at Hamilton or Auckland; Canterbury or Westland v. Otago finalists, at Christchurch or Dunedin. The date of the final will be settled later. It was reported that the whole of the responsibility for the control of the F.A. trophy game between Wellington and Auckland at Blandford Park won id be taken over by the council, which will bear any loss. Any profit will b’ credited to the Auckland Association. The match is to be played on June 13.
