RUGBY LEAGUE.

SATURDAY’S MATCHES. DUNEDIN. Smart attacks by the backs, with all the advantage in the scrum work, and a strong wind in their favour in the first spell, gave City a good’ lead of 18 points in the match against Christian Brothers at the Caledonian Ground on Saturday afternoon. The whole City side gave one of its best displays, and had the Greens beaten all the way. In the second half Christian Brothers certainly showed to better advantage. They launched attack after attack, but City kept the play very tight, and the Greens failed to break through the solid defence. The second spell was strenuous, but there was no further score. This is the second time City has beaten Christian Brothers this season, and the former team now has a lead of 4 points in the Ellis Cup competition. The game between Athletic and Pacific on the Oval was played at a fast clip. The play was very close and interesting. A penalty goal to Athletic in the last minute of play gave the north-end team a win by 2 points. POSITION OF TEAMS.
