A DARING BURGLARY
BUSINESS PREMISES ROBBED LARGE HAUL OF TOBACCO. A daring burglary was perpetrated on Wednesday night, when the premises of Messrs C. H. Tucker and Co., merchants, Jervois street, were entered, and a section of the building ransacked. The intruders carried away cigarettes and tobacco estimated to be worth about £175. It is believed that a motor car was requisitioned to remove the stolen goods. Entrance to the premises was gained by the breaking of a window on the second floor at the rear of the building. A business man, whose premises are close by, was returning" to his office about 11.40 on Wednesday night when he noticed a large sedan motor car painted blaek standing outside the store room door of Messrs Tucker’s premises. Two men entered the car, and, although the business man raced across the street, he was too late, as the car was quickly driven away. It was then that he discovered that the door of the store room was open. The manager for Messrs Tucker and Co. stated on Thursday that it was not yet- possible to estimate fully the value of the goods stolen, but it was thought that the amount would be more than £l7O. The intruders, besides removing the goods, helped themselves to .sauce and biscuits.
